- Combat Checkers is played under the same rules as regular American checkers.
- However, Combat Checkers has a twist in that the checkers are armed and have
- special abilities and armor.
- To make sure you understand how to play regular American checkers,
- here are the rules according to Ainslie's Complete Hoyle, 1975:
-
- 'Each player has tweleve [checkers placed on the black squares of a chess
- board.] ... By tradition, [the left side (player 1)] moves first.
- Pieces move forward diagonally one space at a time to unoccupied black
- squares. If the square is occupied by an opposing piece and the square
- beyond is unoccupied, a jump and [shot] may be made. [Pieces that lose all
- of their life points when jumped] are removed from the board. Multiple
- [jumps] sometimes occur at a single turn.
- If a piece can [jump] an opponent, it must do so. If multiple [jumps by the
- piece are] possible, [they] must be completed. If a player can [jump] with
- more than one of his men, (s)he is allowed to choose which [jump] to make
- at the particular turn. But a [jumping] move always is made in perference
- to a [nonjumping] one.
